Cannes snubbed him once again but the Cinémathèque française – the French national film library - has decided to honour him via an exhibition that is filled with emotions and references. Representative of the Spanish film director’s movies, it is a colourful path filled with instinct and imagined by Pedro Almodovar himself. The goal is to reveal/unveil his work, to try to go by the back door and discover “the labyrinth of passions” on a permanent move in each film of the Spanish director, known and recognized all over the world nowadays. Here passion for movies becomes a way of life.

The different spaces are treated according to two different esthetical biases. On one hand, vivacious colours, the first image one keeps in mind from Almodovar’s work. On the other hand, we are presented an expurgated world that suggests the evolution of a film director who is keener to develop the black and white contrasts of life rather than using colour for its sake.

From the entrance where his schoolboy suitcase is exhibited, to the exit dedicated to his new movie “Volver”, every single item – furniture, photo, painting or costume – suggests the work of a film director who, after 25 years in the movie business, still represents renewal. Almodovar surprises us, moves us, hauls us in his world and endlessly reminds us of his passion for cinema.
