Sabine Morandini: What school did you go to ?
Em Essel: Art school

SM:
How did you start with video?
EE: One day while working on after effects. I loved Photoshop, it's a motion activated version of it.

SM: As you went from design to video, I imagined that what you did before helped a lot...
EE:
Yes, especially as I deal with video the same way than an animated film.

SM: Is creative energy compatible with commercial obligations?
EE: There's always time to do personnal projects...

SM: Amongst all movie icons which one would you like to work with?
EE: I like to work alone

SM: How did you get the idea for life is not?
EE: A sleepless night at some friends.I had with me a camera and a  mirror business card. As an experiment I locked the mirror in the lens and I took some shots.

SM: What motivates your choices in music?
EE: Life is not is the music video for the song "eponyme". I usually use tracks that I like, I love music.

SM: Of all your realisations what are you most passionated about?
EE: To have an idea, a universe , and to discover where it all leads without a preconceived map.

SM: How do you find balance between technic and creation?
EE: You can acquire technics...

SM:
What are you trying to say in your videos?
EE: Nothing in particular.

SM:
What do you film with ?
EE: A small camera and a digital one.

SM:
What is your most influential artistic trend?
EE: Each one that I discover until the next

SM: What do you think of Vjing?
EE: I'm interested in it as a new technic. It might make the electro concerts a bit less boring.
