French cinema by women? Yes!!Finally!!
With the talented MAÏWENN (Le bal des actrices, Polisse) URSULA MEIER (Home, L’enfant d’en haut) or CÉLINE SCIAMMA (Naissance des pieuvres, Tomboy) and of course JULIE DELPY, just as talented.A film director who, like other feminine directors, was able to establish her very creative style. And what style!!She has a gift for surprising and reinventing herself with each new movie. As much by the tone, the stagging and the subject.
In other word, she knows how to renew herself. Her principal source of inspiration is her daily grind, past or present, like in "2 days in Paris", "Le Skylab", and the last one,"Two days in New York". She's multi faceted and not scared of anything: She writes, directs, plays and happily drags her family along, between France and The United states. We laugh at her characters' ordeals-not so fictitious -full of neurosis, so close to ours.
The success of her cinema might very well be that we can relate perfectly. We can recognize our parents, our childhood, our lives!!
A messy life, complicated, wrinkled, disorganized!! A life that looks like our apartments, with a mess and a lack of space and a lot of dust - far from the usual cliches where the heroes don't have any lodging, financial or professional issues!
Finally, to depict the real life, not a sublimed life. is a true gem who delights the public, apparently in demand.
And when she applies herself to the historical subject of "La Comtesse", it's a real success, as much in the style (magnificent work and images) as in the subject of women aging.
JULIE DELPY asserts that she stays mostly home and she works a lot: I can believe that! She's a hard working woman!!! May she keeps locked in and explores her memories and her daily grind to make us laugh with her perfectly imperfect life!!
