Religions promise an eternal life to their flocks, as long as it starts after death. Today a handful of scientists and visionaries offer an aletrnative: Eternal life BEFORE Death. They are called the immortalists

Sabine Morandini:
What was your motivation for directing a documentary on eternal life?

Jean-Martial Lefranc:
I would like to be eternal myself.

SM:
Why hasn't this documentary been aired (TV or cinema)?
J-M L
: Enormous pressures were used to hide the truth from the public.

SM:
Religion promises eternal life to draw disciples, this American trend also promises eternity, would it be for lobbying and financial reasons?
J-M L
:There is a real conflict between religion and technology. Bioethics laws that are currently reforming in France remain much lower than the technical possibilities in fear of religious lobbies.
Eternity is a specific market that represent an enormous past , present and future potential.

Each individual should be free of choosing either the religious or the scientific way.

SM:
Throughout time technology was always below human expectancies, will it be the same for eternalism?
J-M L
: No,the promises of trans-humanism - rather than eternalism - are that of a quest toward human optimization. Those promises are already largely achieved through life expectancy extension that we can all witness today. This tendency is about to accelerate. Its limitation is located somewhere in the mystery of our consciousness but this too will one day be understood.

SM:
Wouldn't it be the worst catastrophe if nobody would ever die?
J-M L
: The important point is choice. Eventually, this planet will disappear. Any hope for survival resides in dispersion in space. In order to travel in space, one has to live very long periods, therefore the survival of humanity is contingent to life extension, intelligence and spatial "SMIILE" travel, as Thimothy Leary once said: Space Migration - Intelligence Increase - Life Extension.

SM:
Isn't it yet another way of killing god?
J-M L
: No, God has his place in the metasphere and man in the laborious laboratories.

SM:
Do you know the animated movie “ Ghost in the Shell”?
J-M L
: Yes, it's a very realistic possibility.

SM:
Since 2007, are all the staff who worked on the documentary still alive? (The institute of Immortality) ? We are worried...
J-M L
: As far as I know yes, but the journey toward immortality is a dangerous one, so let's stay vigilant...

SM:
Is utopia a source of evolution?
J-M L
: Evidently.

SM:
Would you like to live forever?
J-M L
:Yes, absolutely

SM:
Is Eternalism an urban preoccupation?
J-M L
:No, the countrysides is a very good place to live eternally, especially with a good Internet connection.

SM:
Will we be able to purchase a soul on a USB key?
J-M L
:It's a theme of a movie. I'm not particularly worried about the soul business, they are already being bought, sold, and being manufactured actively.

SM:
What's the social status of a cryogenized man in society?
J-M L
:100% equivalent to its human counterpart.

SM:
What will happen to all the “We all die one day...” proverbs etc
J-M L
:They sounded a bit stupid to me already. They say "Nothing is certain but death and taxes". Part of that proverb is already false.

SM:
Did the people in this documentary convince you?
J-M L
:Yes

SM:
What fascinates you?
J-M L
:The possibility of an existence which would encompass all possibilities. The lightness to make decisions which consequences will only be relevant for part of our lives, not throughout our whole existence.
