"Accumulation d'Archives" by Antonio Marras
KENZO 40th anniversary show
Universes of past and future will collide
As well as the presentation of the KENZO Défilé Spring / Summer 2011 collection,
Antonio Marras will also present a mixture of art and fashion, sculpture and catwalk, with the KENZO archives forming the basis for an incredible visual feast in the spirit of crazy creativity of the early years of the house. The Cirque d’hiver will be the setting for this performance, a tribute to the heritage of the Maison.
What a mysterious place Sardinia, one would think it was Japan.
Two islands, surrounded by the sea, isolation makes them stronger. In Japan like in Sardinia, nature is king, the rocks and the water are idolised. The curved branches of the trees so similar to a bonsai. The Sardinian clothing, as decorated, rich, sumptuous and layered as the kimono is sober, simple and essential still resembles certain aspects of traditional Japanese dress.
The colours, the prints, the textures and the decorative elements.
Rusty tones, sand, ochre, brick, coral, jade. Mint green, deep and vibrant purple, cobalt blue, indigo, pearly and dark grey, bright whites.
Crepe de soie, sandy chiffons, frayed threads, prints, tulle, rustic linen, silks and wool jacquards.
Embroideries, encrusted stones, sketches, kimono and landscape patterns, micro-prints, wool tapestries and graphic symbols.
