Projections and testimonies in honor of the artist, who passed in Paris in April 2007.
Cinema theorician in the 70’s, Thierry Kuntzel has became one of France most important artist. Thierry Kuntzel was born in Bergerac, France, in 1948. His philosophical, semiologic and linguistic studies brought him to the preparation of a thesis , under the supervision of Roland Barthes, called “ Study on film/Study on dream” and to write several major essays on movie theory and analysis.
From 1972 to 1989 he works in research at the ORTF (French Television) and at INA, then teaches movie semiology and movie text analysis at Paris University, at IDHEC and in several american universities.
At the end of the 70’s he decides to dedicate himself fully to artistic creation. After realizing a few installations in 1974, with marble or neons, he produces the main part of his videos between 1979 and 1980. Since then, he produces mainly installations that involve image projections, light and sound.
Writing is also an essential aspect of all his work. His work was displayed many times, most recently at the Studio National of Contemporary Arts of Fresnoy, France, in 2006.
